Dr. William
E. Berger
received his M.D. degree from the University if Cincinnati
College of Medicine in 1973. He then completed an internship
and residency program in Pediatrics at the UCLA Medical
Center in 1976. Dr. Berger pursued additional training
at the National Jewish Hospital and Research Center where
he served as a Fellow in Allergy and Immunology form 1976
to 1978. Board Certified in both Pediatrics and Allergy
and Immunology, Dr. Berger founded the Allergy and Asthma
Associates of Southern California Medical Group in 1981
in Mission Viejo, California where he practices both adult
and pediatric allergy. |

| In 1995, Dr. Berger
established the southern California research Center, focusing
on respiratory and allergy clinical research projects.
To further his educational goals, in 1997, Dr. Berger
received his Masters in Business Administration from the
graduate School of Management of the University of California,
Irvine. He holds dual appointments as Clinical Professor
at the College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics,
Division of Allergy and Immunology, and Adjunct Professor
of Health Care Management in the Graduate School of Management
at the university of California, Irvine. |

| Dr. Berger
has served as President of both the Orange County and
California Societies of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
He is a member of the joint Task Force on Practice Parameters,
Chairman of the Managed Care Committee of the American
College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and Chairman
of the Mission Hospital Institutional Review board. A
former Medical Correspondent for the Orange County Newschannel,
Dr. Berger is the author of many academic papers and lay
press articles in the field of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology,
including the recently published book "Allergies
and Asthma for Dummies." |

Dr.
Mark S Sugar
has
been in private practice for over 15 years. He is an Associate
Clinical Professor at the University of California, Irvine
College of Medicine, with teaching responsibilities in
the Department of Allergy and Immunology. His other professional
activities include past president of the Orange County
Allergy Society, and Principle Investigator and/or Sub-investigator
on allergy, asthma and infectious disease studies with
the Southern California Research Center in Mission Viejo. |

Center
Overview
Southern California Research is a physician-owned, professionally
managed, multi-specialty, multi-site clinical research
organization. Our mission is to provide a superior level
of service to our sponsors, while pursuing our role
as recognized centers of excellence for the Southern
California region in phase I-IV multi-specialty clinical
trials. SCR is uniquely structured to reduce
the cost of conducting clinical trials through rapid
enrollment, standardized source documentation, highly
trained and qualified staff members, and an overall
commitment to total quality management of all research
protocol activities.
Facility
Description
Southern California
Research benefits not only from a large professional
medical community, but also by serving a large suburban
population of over 2.5 million people. We are located
near Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, close
to the I-5 freeway. Our facility utilizes state-of-the-art
pulmonary function equipment, limited service laboratory,
ECG machines, subzero freezers, I.V. infusion equipment,
patient exam rooms, private monitoring rooms, and private
conference rooms. Our ophthalmologic diagnostic and
gastroenterology endoscopy centers are conveniently
located on the Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center
campus.

Demographics
Our patient recruiting base
draws from physician practice referrals, HMO group referrals,
television, radio, and newspaper media, college campuses,
and other local community groups. Our strategic location
in Southern California enable us to recruit from diverse
populations. The following represents specific population
groups directly accessible through our extensive data
base:
Allergy/Asthma 20,000 patients
(25% pediatric, 25% adolescent, 40% adult, and 10%
geriatric)
Endocrinology 11,000 patients (5% pediatric,
5% adolescent, 75% adult, and 15% geriatric)
Gastroenterology 15,000 patients (5%
adolescent, 65% adult, and 30% geriatric)
Ophthalmology 21,000 patients (5% adolescent,
65% adult, and 30% geriatric)
Otolaryngology 15,000 patients (75% pediatric,
25% adult)
Urology 5,000 patients (50%
adult, and 50% geriatric)
Our goal is to improve the quality
of life for as many people as possible by investigating
possibly more effective treatments and better medical
